San Antonio Fair, Inc. was the nongovernmental entity created to take on the challenge of evolving the idea of a fair into the 1968 World’s Fair. The organization handled many of the challenges of building an International Exposition including: financing, site design/development, National/Corporate participation, qualifying and approval for World’s Fair status, etc… Some offices were housed in a Coca Cola plant located on the northeast section of the fair site and others were housed in buildings just across from the fairgrounds in the historic La Villita area.

The name HemisFair is wordplay on the phrase Hemisphere World’s Fair.
